Energy costs can be high, especially in the winter and summer. There are community programs you can tap into if you need help paying your utility bills. Most have income requirements you’ll need to meet. Below are a few that serve large areas of Louisiana. Also check with your utility provider for information about other programs local to your area.
- The Power to Care helps low-income, elderly and disabled customers pay their energy bills in times of financial need. Area councils on aging and the Salvation Army participate in the program. Click here for additional information on the Power to Care program.
- Louisiana Housing Corporation offers assistance through the:
- Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which helps low-income households through bill payment or energy crisis assistance.
- Weatherization Assistance Program, which helps insulate homes to improve heating and cooling efficiency to reduce costs and improve household comfort.
